html - How to have internal links for sections get redirected from another page -

i'm trying make webstite , it's going great, on 1 of pages, has multiple sections such about us , contact us , have internal links sorted extent go section page, drop down menu items highlighted.

what did first give headers id exampe <h3 id="aboutus"> , in menu item, did #aboutus worked when on page not when wasn't, changed menu item included url page www.website.co.uk/about-us/#aboutus causes drop down menu items highlighted.

how change have if i'm on, lets say, home page , click on about us, directs me section without whole drop down menu being highlighted?
